Boston Virtual ATC (BVA/BVATC) is an online community of aviation enthusiasts who strive to emulate real-world air traffic. The emulation is accomplished by means of several servers and clients assuming the roles of virtual pilots and air traffic controllers.

Many flight simulation communities share similar goals and architecture.  BVA is unique in that it provides an environment in which inexperienced members can learn the mechanics of flying and controlling under the tutelage of expert members. BVA is also unique in that it strives for maximum visual realism. While some sites achieve compatibility among different flight simulators by underutilizing the simulator’s most advanced features, thus giving up some of their visual realism, BVA uses FSX exclusively. All the subordinate software is built around the protocols provided by FSX. By doing so, BVA trades compatibility for homogeneity; universality for visual realism.

BVA’s vision is to become the best FSX-based aviation community through realistic and professional pilot-controller interactions, exciting and appealing events, pilot training, and software and add-on technologies.

Our Expectations

The information on this page is provided for members to have a better understanding of what constitutes acceptable behavior at BVA. It supplements our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and the Privacy Statement for New Members.

We expect members of BVA to act professionally, maturely, and respectfully at all times within the confines of our community. We are not governed by codified rules; instead, BVA is governed by a set of norms and shared values that unite our members. We work together in expressing our passion about aviation. Members are therefore expected to recognize the needs and wants of other users, and use our shared values and objectives to frame decisions.

When communicating through FlightDesk, posting on our forums, or flying in our session, your responsibility is to act within the confines of our shared values:

  • Mutual respect
  • Responsibility and accountability
  • Empathy and courtesy
  • Honesty
Member Conduct

The materials provided to new members, especially on the Getting Started Guide, should provide the rational reader with our expectations of members and what acceptable conduct is at BVA. In addition to that information, we have some very specific expectations for certain situations.

  • BVA will not tolerate defamation, slander, libel, racial or sexual intolerance, abuse, or harassment at any time and in any form.
  • Software piracy is not acceptable; BVA does not condone any form of intellectual property infringement between members and will act to remove and block transmissions of unauthorized intellectual property from or between our website. This action may include informing relevant authorities, including the intellectual property owner.
  • When operating in other communities or in other places on the internet, we represent the community and should remember that when deciding how to act in those places.
  • Unless an exception has been granted by a member of the A-Team, members must be at least 13 years of age to participate in our server, and members under the age of 18 must have informed their parents or guardians about their intent to participate in the community.
  • The server password, IP address, and other information contained on password-protected pages of the internet may not be shared with anyone.
  • Simulated emergencies are handled at the discretion of active controller(s); If an emergency is refused by a controller, the offending pilot must either resume normal operations or disconnect from the server.
  • Flying a military aircraft does not exempt you from standard restrictions, regulations, and operating procedures. You are welcome to fly military aircraft provided you comply with civil speed and airspace restrictions, contact controllers appropriately, and are able to understand and fly the aircraft capably.
Users wishing to report members who do not conform to our shared values can do so by e-mailing inquiries@bostonvirtualatc.com, or using the anonymous contact function on the Contact Us page.

BVA is under no obligation to act on feedback provided or to proactively address gaps in any of the analogous or enumerated expectations on this page. While we will make every effort to ensure our expectations are met, BVA is a volunteer community run by individuals who donate their time for the betterment of the community. No member receives any monetary compensation for work performed, and each must manage “real-world” responsibilities in addition to the responsibilities held within the community.
